Different problem than elmo - texture naming
Hey, I'm a first-time retexture artist, and I've decided to work on some textures for an old game which nobody else seems to have retextured yet, Snowboard Kids. I looked at how to loadup a custom texture pack, and I know how to dump textures. I also know all of the requirements of an image, how to make it look good, tile, and be accepted by the emulator. But I have an extremely specific problem that no tutorial on this website has explained to me yet:
What am I supposed to name it? This may seem like a silly question, but listen up: The emulator dumps textures into categories, right? And it names them according to the game, their relative location in the ROM, and the type of texture, and sorts them into folders. A texture from SBK, for example might be named something like this:
SNOWBOARD KIDS#2#0#A1872B943C02#cl_by_i.png Or something simalar. The main idea is the hashes.
But a texture pack I downloaded, the dk_jungle retexture by (some guy) has files named like this:
A105739CB2345F21345E.png But I don't know how many digits it would have been. (Im on a diff computer right now)
Notice the lack of hashes and text. My question is, how did it get a name like that? Is there some utility that I'm missing, something obvious that I haven't noticed yet? When I try to load my SBK retextures into the emulator with their original file names, it crashes. I tried just deleting the dashes and text, and the emulator loads them, but doesn't display them anywhere. I'm gonna need some help on this. All I want to do is load some of my own hi-res textures into the game. I might even have them in the wrong directory....
It might help to note that although I've seen my friend load a custom texture pack, I've never done it myself, and as a result of these problems I'm having, I'm beginning to doubt if I know how to do it at all.
Ah, that clears up a lot. But there's still the problem that Project64 crashes - I put the retextures with their correct names in hires_texture(the correct one)/SNOWBOARD KIDS/cl_by_i/ or something like that. Should I have just put them in the /SNOWBOARD KIDS directory? What I mean is, are the sub-directories in the dump folder only for the convenience of sorting them? Because that would make sense.
If not, I made sure my textures are 4X or 8X png's, so that can't be the issue.
-EDIT-
Tried that, didn't work. Project 64 keeps crashing. One other thing is that the same images showed up in 2 different sub-folders. Do I need to replace every instance of the same texture for it to work?
"Should I have just put them in the /SNOWBOARD KIDS directory?"
directory= pj64/plugin/hirez texture/snowboard kids.
btw what video plugin are you using
rice or glide?

this(SNOWBOARD KIDS#2#0#A1872B943C02#cl_by_i.png) is correct for rice video
the other is correct for jabo video
